SATURDAY 31 OCTOBER 2015 5.00PM – AT UCL IN GOWER STREET
The Circle Podemos London, in our 18th of October Assembly, unanimously aproved our support for this important event. Organised by the Platform for the Preservation of Historic Memory and the ADN Bank, this event will help give international visibility to the efforts of family, friends and supporters of the disappeared and unidentified victims of the Civil War, the Francoist post-war in Spain.
114,226 is a number that still affects Spanish society and the foundations of its democracy, although the real number of disappearances is significantly larger, being this only the official record. The lack of support from the institutions and the invisibility of this issue outside its borders is leading to a great urgency to find new paths and create new projects, seeking international support. Time is dissolving memory, identities and possibilities to recover them. Spain is the second country in the world with the highest number of missing victims of enforced disappearances after Cambodia.
Following this need of higher exposure and visibility, we welcome you to “Truth, Justice and Memory in Spain: The DNA Bank”, an experience that will highlight the challenges faced by those who work in the recovery of historical memory and will attempt to bring them to an international audience through the screening of the documentary “El camí d’un protocol” with the contribution of Guillermo Turina, cello player who will pay tribute to Pau Casals. The event will be followed by the debate led by our three speakers (Inés García Holgado, René Pacheco, Roger Heredia).
We hope to see you on Saturday 31!
